Surah Al-Ahad lesson plan

bismillah.

This is my lesson plan for surah al ahad with my 3 year old daughter. we have begun daily taleem here at my house with just me and my 2 little ones and here's what I planned. This may or may not be all done in one sitting which is fine.

Before we start, I always go through the proper etiquette in dealing with Quran and why it's so special for us.

I first read surah Ahad in arabic trying to beautify my voice. I also play it in the background at other times during the day sometimes being intentional about it by saying "Ao Quran paak sunte hen".

Then read it's translation and a little bit of tafseer from tafseer al-Saadi that I have in urdu. I intentionally use big words so she gets used to hearing proper urdu.

I tried to talk to her about what it means to be one. There are lots of mommies, daddies, and lots of girls and boys (and mention some names) but only one Rabb. One God whose name is Allaah.

After this I repeat the surah trying to get her to repeat after me. Then we do an activity. Here's a list I came up with.

1. play a game where I ask her to follow simple commands such as bring me One "____". Hop over to dresser and tap it once etc.. Once she gets the gist of it she can command me and I follow. This helps following one - two step directions and listening attentively as well. It's also good large motor play.

2. Since we're also doing letter alif this week, we look at the Quran and search for words that have or begin with alif. I write them down for her to see on a seperate piece of paper.

3. Ahad is one and we talked about that after reading so here we group several items together. I bring several blocks or bottle caps and place them grouped as 1 single object and other 2 together, then 3 together etc., counting as we go. Once she makes a group I close my eyes and try to count them with my hand only. We take turns doing that. Another variation for this activity would be to glue hand drawn pictures in rows of 1,2 and 3 etc. (I draw beforehand picture of one tree and it goes under one. A picture of two eggs and it goes under two. 3 birds and it goes under 3 etc..)

Maryam:

Read book "Playtime". It has one picture on each page and is 5 pages long. It's a board book so she can munch on it without much problem. ;) While reading, emphasis is placed on the number one. Zenab usually joins us as well.

A game they both enjoy together is roll the ball. I sit with Maryam in lap and Zenab facing me and they roll their big yellow ball back and forth. A little change is to tap the ball once and then roll it. Toss it in the air once before rolling it or, bounce it once etc..

Have you ever tried taleem with little kids? What was your approach?
